VISIT THE LOCAL MARKET

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your guesthouse and take you to a nearby traditional market. Wander through colorful stalls filled with fresh vegetables, herbs, spices, and local ingredients while learning about the essential flavors used in Indonesian cooking. Together, you’ll select everything needed for today’s cooking class.

WELCOME TO A LOCAL HOME

From the market, continue to a traditional village house surrounded by rice fields with beautiful views of Gunung Leuser National Park. Here, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your local hosts, who will introduce you to their kitchen and share stories about Sumatran food and family cooking traditions.

LEARN TO COOK TRADITIONAL DISHES

Roll up your sleeves and start cooking! Guided step by step by your local hosts, you’ll learn how to prepare two traditional appetizers and two authentic Indonesian main dishes. Discover how to use fresh herbs, aromatic spices, and local ingredients while mastering recipes such as rendang, curry, sambal, sate, nasi goreng, mie goreng, gado-gado, and more. A variety of vegetarian options are also available.

END WITH RIVER TUBING

Complete your adventure by floating down the Bohorok River on a traditional jungle tube. It’s the perfect way to relax after your trek while taking in the beauty of the surrounding rainforest. Back in Bukit Lawang, your guide will escort you to the guesthouse, leaving you with unforgettable memories of your time in Sumatra.

ENJOY YOUR HOMEMADE MEAL

Once everything is ready, gather around the table and enjoy the delicious dishes you’ve prepared together. It’s the perfect opportunity to share stories, experience genuine local hospitality, and savor the authentic flavors of Sumatra in a peaceful village setting.

RETURN TO YOUR GUESTHOUSE

Before leaving, you’ll receive digital recipe cards so you can recreate your favorite dishes at home. After a memorable culinary experience lasting approximately 3–4 hours, your guide will accompany you back to your guesthouse.
